If you’re bored with holidays lolling on beaches or mooching around museums and you think you can ride, the Australasian Safari has the perfect antidote with its adrenalin-packed Adventure Tour.

The seven-day off-road motorbike tour, from Perth through the Murchison and Gascoyne to Perth, travels parts of the same route as competitors in the Australasian Safari.

All you need is to be a competent dirt bike or trail bike rider, love to challenge yourself, and have a spirit for adventure.

Tour members get to experience the best of the Australasian Safari course and stay in the same overnight bivouac camps in outback WA, rubbing shoulders with the likes of V8 supercar legend Craig Lowndes and multi title winning moto rider Ben Grabham.

The Australasian Safari, from 20 to 28 September 2013, has a wonderful camaraderie amongst its competitors, support crew and officials.  Adventure Tour Road Director Andy van Kann said the last year’s tour riders were ‘blown away’ by the experience.

“We have some guys returning on the Tour this year from around Australia, and others who came with us last year have taken a step up and are competing now having built their confidence.

“There’s no doubt it’s a serious ride, with up to 400km on the bikes each day, but the difference with the Adventure Tour is that we finish riding in the early afternoon most days and generally end up at a spectacular and secluded spot that isn’t accessible to anyone else.

“Because we plan the course for the competition and the Adventure Tour months in advance, we have the opportunity to pick out some of the most stunning spots in the remotest of places in the WA outback to take the riders.

“The experience is as much about the ride as it is being part of an international motorsport event.

“We’re a pretty unique tour in that our riders get to mix with the Australasian Safari competitors who come from around the globe and around the country to test their skills against the best.  Some of these guys use Safari as a testing ground and practice for Dakar, so it’s a big deal.”

Again in 2012 there will be the option for entrants to use route chart scrolls of sections of the ADVT to practice route chart navigation while still maintaining the Corner Man System.

Each day will be comprised of approximately 400km of riding. The ADVT organisers will develop the ADVT course to maximise dirt riding distances.  It is also intended to include at least one marathon dirt stage of around 250km.  Most days will also include a spectator point to enable riders to see the lead Moto competition action.   Garry Whittle will again lead the group on the Team Huseberg 570 Rallye giving the more confident riders the opportunity to follow at a high level of riding.

The entire ADVT runs on an approved schedule, making it essential to minimise avoidable delays.  Bikes will be required to be well prepared and very reliable.  Entrants for 2012 are encouraged to fit Mousse tubes.   As a minimum, ultra head duty tubes are necessary. Competition quality knobby tyres are highly recommended.

That's the scariest thing I have done in my life... (Riding to the top of the world. India 2012)

Gordon Hunter

Just a short note to thank you and Tony for another fantastic trip. Your cryptic answers, positive nature, great selection in choosing Tony, excellent culinary skills and ‘don’t give a shit’ attitude left us all pleasantly confused, entertained and fatter. So thank you….I think..

Anthony Adare

A dream come true. I've wanted to ride the Finke Race Track since I was a kid.

Tony S. New Zealand
