Based on the success of the
2009 Moto Tour several new concepts will be introduced for the
2010 Moto Tour. The most significant new initiative for 2010 is
the introduction of two levels; The Moto Tour Challenge and the
Moto Tour.
The Moto Tour Challenge is now full. There are still spots available for the Moto Tour.
The Moto Tour Challenge
will be a step up from the 2009 ride. Riders will be expected to
be experienced trail or ex enduro level riders capable of
traversing long distances of relatively challenging tracks
including occasional sections of ‘technical’ sandy
terrain. Bikes should be trail or enduro type bikes with 250km
fuel range. Each day will comprise approximately 400km of riding
of which approximately 100km will be on competition terrain.
2009 Lead Rider Garry Whittle will lead this group giving the
more confident riders the opportunity to experience appropriate
speeds. For safety and logistical reasons the Challenge will be
strictly limited in rider numbers so interested riders are
encouraged to lodge their Expressions of Interest as soon as
possible.
The Moto Tour
will be pitched for the larger and heavier touring type bikes
and/or the less experienced riders on trail bikes. Riders will
be expected to be able to ride approximately 400km per day on
tarmac and/or good open gravel roads with occasional short
distances of trail type tracks at very low speed to access
spectator points. The Moto Tour will not traverse any of the
competition course nor any technical or sandy type terrain. The
Tour will have its own Lead and Sweep separate from the
Challenge.
Each day will include a
spectator point to enable riders to see the competitive action.
It is envisaged that the Challenge and the Tour will meet each
day at the same spectator points to share the day’s adventure
stories. The Challenge and the Tour will stay overnight at the
same Bivouac locations as the competitors. We will have ‘Meet
and Greet’ evening sessions with some of the Safari’s big name
riders, team bosses, drivers and co-drivers. Both the Challenge
and the Tour will run for the entire duration of the Safari.
Join the Moto Challenge or Tour and be part of the exciting Australasian
Safari. The Adventure Tour follows the endurance based Safari
through the rough and rugged terrain of Western Australia’s
unspoilt outback.
